Hi, I’m Achini!
With over 10 years of experience teaching Chemistry, I specialise in helping high school students navigate the NSW syllabus for Preliminary (Year 11) and HSC (Year 12).
I hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Carleton University in Canada and a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka. My teaching experience spans multiple international curricula, which has given me a broad perspective on how Chemistry is taught and assessed worldwide:
- Cambridge IGCSE & A Levels – Guided students through structured topic progression, strong focus on exam-style questions, and development of analytical skills.
- Edexcel International GCSE & A Levels – Helped students tackle application-based questions, data analysis, and practical problem-solving.
- Canadian Curriculum (SCH3U & SCH4U) – Prepared students for both College and University pathways, focusing on core concepts, lab techniques, and critical thinking.
- IB (International Baccalaureate) Chemistry – Supported students with internal assessments, lab report writing, and strategies for extended-response questions.
This diverse experience enables me to adapt lessons to different learning styles while bringing clarity to complex Chemistry topics.
I know the NSW curriculum can feel challenging, but with the proper guidance, it becomes manageable—and even enjoyable! My lessons focus on simplifying complex topics, building exam confidence, and developing strong problem-solving skills. Many students say I make Chemistry clear, approachable, and less stressful, while keeping learning engaging.

Currently, I am engaged in research administration at UNSW, where I support academic projects through coordination, compliance management, and effective communication with researchers and collaborators. This role has deepened my understanding of how research drives innovation and knowledge creation, while also strengthening my analytical and organizational skills.
Alongside this, being an educator has always been a true passion of mine. Teaching Chemistry and helping students succeed brings me immense joy, and it is something I am committed to continuing as much as possible. My academic background, combined with my current involvement in research, allows me to bring both rigor and real-world perspective into my tutoring—making learning not only effective, but also inspiring for my students.
